A master bedroom designed as a sanctuary of calm — soft linen layers, warm timber, and floor-to-ceiling curtains framing a garden view.

Serenity Suite draws from the Japanese concept of Ma — the beauty of empty space. Every element was edited down to its essence: a floating platform bed in solid hinoki cypress, curtains that move with the breeze like shoji screens, and a palette restricted to three materials. The garden view is treated as the room's primary artwork, with the window proportioned to frame a single maple tree whose seasonal transformation becomes the room's evolving colour story.

Every material was selected not just for its visual quality, but for its tactile character and how it ages over time.
- Hinoki cypress — bed platform and nightstands
- Washed Belgian linen — bedding and curtains
- Tadelakt plaster — bathroom walls and shower
- Honed basalt — bathroom flooring
- Handmade washi paper — accent wall panels

We spent a week on-site in Kyoto studying the garden's light patterns, recording the direction and quality of light at every hour. The room's orientation was adjusted by 8 degrees during the planning phase to align the bed with the morning sunrise. All furniture was fabricated by a single workshop in Takayama, requiring three visits for fit and finish approvals.
